Kosovo vs Crimea

It's so rare for me to be opposed to the Western governments that it almost looks like I'm one of their stooges. So I am delighted that on this occasion I can speak out against the West, and support Russia.

The West has been screaming blue murder about Russia annexing Crimea. But Russia correctly points out that Kosovo was annexed too, and what's the difference. And as I have previously blogged, it is very wrong for the West to be annexing racist/religious-bigotted Kosovo from liberal democracy Serbia. That was a massive slap in the face for what the Serbs have achieved in their country as well as a slap in the face and betrayal of Russia who helped end the war in favour of NATO.

It is important for the West (or anyone else for that matter) to be non-hypocritical. The West is absolutely dripping with hypocrisy.

Kosovo should have been left as "status quo" (same as Taiwan), as the danger from racist Serbs had disappeared. Their human rights were in no danger. There was absolutely no reason for the US etc to recognize Kosovo. It should have deferred to Russia.

Now let's look at Crimea. It is full of pro-Russian Russians who wish to be united with Russia. It was also traditionally Russian territory. Why should this bit of territory not return to Russia's fold? Russia has been very good withdrawing from Eastern Europe and even places like the Baltics and even accepting these regions to join NATO. Russia has been nothing short of exemplary. What they are doing currently is regaining enclaves that they have never militarily left. I believe protecting Russian majorities is an acceptable reason to ignore Westphalia. The people in question have a different ideology to the West - they see the West and NATO as enemies and Russia as the hero. We need to disassociate ourselves from these people. They should be bundled up as part of Russia and a very slightly bigger Russia should be dealt with diplomatically to see if we can get them to change their ideology to be pro-Western.

P.S. Turkey went into Northern Cyprus to protect ethnic Turks too.

Ukraine

My interest is in expanding and protecting the free world.

Ukraine is split down the middle over whether to join the West or Russia. At the most recent presidential elections, the pro-Russians won. This is a disastrous situation, the same sort of situation that exists in Northern Ireland.

As per this map there is a clear division geographically, with the West Ukrainians voting for a pro-Western candidate and the East Ukrainians voting for a pro-Russian candidate.

I believe the Ukraine should be split into West Ukraine and East Ukraine. I just hope that the invading Russians stop after conquering East Ukraine. This will give the West Ukrainians a chance to protect themselves in NATO.

Note that there is only 28% of Ukrainians who wish to join NATO. I suspect most of those are in West Ukraine and a majority of sensible people in West Ukraine would wish to protect their freedom in NATO.

Note that changing government via street demonstrations is invalid. That's not how democracies have changes of government.

At a later date I hope that East Ukrainians wake up to themselves that Russia is a crappy ally and apply to join NATO and reunite with West Ukraine. But I wouldn't hold my breath for that.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine should also serve as a calling card for the West to invade Syria, with a "we'll get out of Syria when you get out of Ukraine".
